he reiterated a plea to gun owners to make sure their weapons are properly stored. >> president obama said he would do whatever in the power his office holds. two children and -- 20 children and six adults were murdered by adam lanza. the nation could be at a tipping point and it is time to think about reinstating the assault weapons ban and also make it harder for the mentally ill to obtain a weapon. police say adam lanza was carrying an arsenal of ammunition when he opened fire at sandy hook elementary. >> we need to accept the reality that we're not doing enough to protect our citizens. >> the shooting has revived a dormant discussion gun-control.

some issues that we would never have a match to do with and we need to make sure that there are folks who will be -- they can make sure they are sharing those situations. >> some anxious moments for school officials at national academy foundation prep. police arrested the family member of a student. she went to a building without proper clearance and was confronted by a school staffer as per safety protocols. an altercation took place and a visitor showed a knife but the woman and a staff member severed hand injuries. >> was understandably frayed nerves by parents, we wanted to check with parents. >> we also wanted to see how school systems are responding.

lisa robinson joined this in -- joins us in north baltimore with what she found. for parents.ay firs asking richards as they drop their kids off. at schools throughout the area, vigilance was the order of the day. from school counselors to police officers, schools have more people on hand to ensure the safety of students and reassure parents that everything is being done to protect their children. it was tough for many parents to let go. >> it is a loss of control. feeling like i have no control over what happens outside of my home. >> it is hard to think about sending their kids when all this is happening. >> it was scary but i just had to let their normal day entertain happen. >> the school superintendents communicated with their

principles over the weekend about making sure security procedures are in place an emergency drills occur on schedule. schools are using calls to keep parents informed and insure them there on top of safety. the weekend was bent hugging their kids' clothes and talking about what they need to do as the situation arises. >> they need to go to the school and they have phones so they're in contact. basically making them more aware. >> she had a hard time explaining everything to her 11- year-old son and said he had a lot of questions but by this morning was ready to go. >> i tried to be as positive as possible. we did give him a kiss and hug. i am usually there during the day so i can always go up and see him. if i feel like i have that need to see him. i am not too worried. >> i prayed with them and myself so we just gave it to god and

>> two people face charges after assaulting a bus driver. they wrestled to the bus driver while riding the 39 around 5:00 p.m. late friday afternoon, investigators said. they have been taken into custody on multiple charges including first and second- degree assault and the use of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure. >> police made an arrest in a weekend shooting outside a charles village pub. this is the second shooting in that area in late night hours while the bars are letting out in the last couple of months. we have the latest. >> police tell us that this story is a prime example of why alcohol and firearms to not mix. francis kang was intoxicated when he shot into a group of people in the early morning hours sunday in downtown towson and where he was licensed to have a handgun.

he was not permitted to carry it. >> i had -- the guy had have followed on drinking at a location all night and he happened to have a permit. it was unlawful. he should not have had the gun at that location. it was only for its business that he owns. he chose to pull that out and use it because he felt as though he was losing ground somehow. >> and other violent weekend after hours in downtown towson. sunday morning after 2:00 a.m., a 26-year-old francis kang left the charles village pub intoxicated. two women try to help him by calling a cab. he got into his truck and through a bottled drink at the girls and turned the corner. he was being chased on foot by a number of by standards -- bystanders who were able to get him to stop. >> there was a fear verbal and physical argument.

he fired several shots at the by standards. -- bystanders. >> police stopped and arrested him as he tried to flee the scene. the suspect is a business owner and had a permit for his gun but was not licensed to carry it. >> the gun is legal. it was purchased legally. he is not prohibited from owning a weapon but he is not permitted to carry the weapon. >> this is the second violent crime involving a gun after hours. i was in september when a man was shot after an angry, large crowd of people was turned away from an event at the record theater. it was too soon to see if the public be reviewed by the liquor board as was the record theater in september. >> a police report will be forwarded to the liquor board and the liquor board will make a
